Famous Sculptors

Phidias

Phidias was one of the most renowned ancient Greek sculptors. He is famous for creating the colossal statue of Zeus at Olympia, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. He also worked on the sculptures for the Parthenon in Athens, including the massive statue of Athena Parthenos.

Polykleitos

Known for his studies of idealized human proportions, Polykleitos created the iconic "Doryphoros" (Spear Bearer), a sculpture that epitomizes the pursuit of perfection in classical Greek art.

Myron

Myron is celebrated for his sculpture "Discobolus" (The Discus Thrower), a masterpiece of capturing dynamic motion in stone.

Praxiteles

Praxiteles was known for his sensuous and graceful depictions of the human form. His work includes "Hermes and the Infant Dionysus."

Famous Sculptures

Venus de Milo

Also known as the Aphrodite of Milos, this Hellenistic marble sculpture of the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite is renowned for its graceful form and missing arms. It is currently on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Derveni Krater

This elaborate ancient Greek vase is adorned with intricate relief scenes and is considered one of the masterpieces of ancient Greek metalwork. It's located in Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum

Hermes of Praxiteles

This famous statue of Hermes holding the infant Dionysus is one of the most celebrated works of Praxiteles. It was discovered in the Temple of Hera at Olympia.
