Industry

This is a department of material production that enables the use of resources and their use to meet the needs of people on the market, on the basis of manual work and machines.

Industry to one of the 3 economic sectors. Utilization of the production of new products (machinery, equipment, access), extraction of mineral resources, energy generation, water supply and sewage disposal.

It is also an economic activity that involves extracting natural resources, producing products and providing services in the field of energy, water and gas supply.

Textile Industry

The textile industry took place in ancient history. Greece is known for producing high-quality fabrics and textiles.

Traditionally, materials such as silk, linen and cotton were produced here. Modern textiles refer to products, carpets, towels and other textiles. In many regions of the country, most importantly on the islands, the definition of small production plants that produce handicrafts.

Additionally, Greece exports textile products to the international market, which forms part of the country’s economy.

Chemical industry

Throughout the country, the chemical industry employs almost 13,000 people. For 1 job in the chemical industry, there are 5.7 jobs in the entire economy.

The industry consists of almost 939 companies, of which 22% employ over 50 people. Several large companies produce basic chemicals, fertilizers, petrochemicals and polymers. It is of great importance to the Greek economy, contributing to job creation and exports. However, as in other countries, it requires constant supervision due to potential health and environmental hazards.

Mining industry

Greece is a major global supplier of several key industrial minerals, notably betonite, magnesite and perlite.

The country’s position as a leading producer of these minerals is well-established. Greece is the only producer of huntite, it is a flatness reducing agent or an additive to polymers.

Greece is also the second largest producer in the EU and the fifth largest producer in the world of brown coal.
