1. Historical background

The history of Greece as a state independent from the Ottoman Empire began in 1821, but the struggle for independence lasted for eight years. Greece had been under Ottoman rule for centuries, and its people wanted to regain their freedom and independence.​

5. Establishment of the monarchy

After gaining independence, Greece became a monarchy, and Otto Wittelsbach, Duke of Bavaria, became the first king. The Greek monarchy lasted for many years before the country became a republic
