Greece – the most popularly visited country.

The Greek region I’ll be describing in my blog, specifically its residents, is called Pieria, located in Central Macedonia. The population of Pieria is approximately 120,000. In contrast, the entire population of Greece is nearly 11 million. Greece is a country with relatively little ethnic diversity, and the atmosphere created by Greeks is very welcoming. Many people consider not only the scenery but also their comfort when traveling to another country. Furthermore, during the tourist season, there are two tourists for every Greek. Greece is the only country in the world where the number of tourists is twice the number of its residents!

How do Greeks live?

The mentality of Greeks can be somewhat unique for many nationalities because matters such as gathering with family, enjoying wine, celebrating, or taking a siesta after lunch are a priority in their lives. Any other issues that might be most important to us, like crises or work, come second for them. In Greece, Eastern Orthodoxy prevails, with 90% of the Greek population adhering to it, while the remaining 10% are Catholics and Protestants. People are very friendly on the streets, and no one will judge you; everyone is kind-hearted, which can be pleasantly surprising and make you feel comfortable.

What does the economic life of Greeks look like?

What does the economic life of Greeks look like? This is also a very interesting topic in 2023. Greeks earn from 850 to 1200 euros net per month. The majority of professions in Greece are based on services such as maritime transport, tourism, commerce, real estate rental, and public services. Other occupations are characterized by agriculture and industry.

What not to do in Greece?

  • Thumbs Up Gesture – The thumbs up gesture, which means “everything is okay” in many cultures, can be seen as vulgar and offensive by Greeks.

  • Open Palm Gesture Towards Someone – Showing an open palm gesture towards someone is highly offensive to Greeks. This gesture is known as “moutza” and carries the same meaning as showing the middle finger.

  • Do Not Throw Toilet Paper in the Toilet – In Greece, it is not advisable to throw toilet paper into the toilet. Greeks typically dispose of toilet paper in a trash bin because their sewage pipes are often quite narrow due to natural conditions.
