What and for whom is the lyre?

The lyre is a string musical instrument that was first created and used in Mesopotamia around 3000 BC.

In organology, the lyre is considered to be a yoke, since it is a lute in which the strings are attached to a yoke, which is on the same level as the sounding board and consists of two arms and a crossbar. Lyra as a product is aimed at musicians, lovers of ancient Greece and historians.

The lyre can be used by both children and adults, there is no age limit.

Origin of the lyre

The stringed instrument known as the lyre was one of the attributes of the Apollo in ancient times; According to selected myths, the god Hermes, the brother of the guardian of poets and artists, should be regarded as the inventor. In a hymn to Hermes it is reported that as a toddler he stole Apollin’s herd of cows by skilfully mixing up his tracks. To soothe Apollo’s anger after this crime, Hermes gave him a lyre of calf’s intestines and turtle shells.
